Saudade do Futuro

is a Portuguese-Brazilian co-production directed by Brazilian filmmaker Anna Azevedo. The documentary travels throughout Portugal, Brazil, and Cape Verde in search of stories ridden by yearning and inserted in the context of events that marked the history of these three countries connected by the sea and the culture of yearning (Saudade) Such as the colonization process, slavery, dictatorships, and leaving to never return.

The culture of yearning is the thread linking conversations by the sea between Portuguese, Brazilian, and Cape Verdean characters in their countries of origin. The framework is inspired by the strength of the culture of yearning in Portuguese-speaking countries.

Director and video artist renowned for her poetic language and unique treatment of archive footage, elements always present in her films  and artistic installations.

With works exhibited at cinema festivals and renowned artistic events, such as the Berlin and the Rotterdam Film Festivals, HotDocs, Sheffield, CPH:DOX, MoMA, the Rio and the São Paulo International Film Festivals, the Venice Biennale, and the Mercosul Biennial.

“Saudade” is her first solo cinematographic feature film.
